A Second Life, A Sustainable Future
How we transformed 88,000 square feet of office space into a greener way to live.
At Lindsey Living, sustainability isn't just a feature—it is the foundation of our entire community. When we looked at the 88,000-square-foot office building that once stood here, we didn't see an outdated structure to be demolished. We saw an opportunity to lead the way in sustainable development for Troy.
By choosing adaptive reuse over new construction, we made a conscious decision to preserve the "embedded carbon" of the existing structure. Instead of sending tons of concrete and steel to the landfill—where 90% of construction debris typically ends up—we gave this building a second life. The result is a community that is not only architecturally unique but environmentally responsible.
Living Green: The Resident Experience
Our commitment to a greener lifestyle extends beyond the building's frame and into your daily routine. We have designed our apartment homes and community spaces to help you live more efficiently without sacrificing comfort.
-
Electric Vehicle (EV) Ready: We are paving the way for the future of transportation with on-site EV charging stations, making it easier for you to reduce your carbon footprint on the go.
-
Hydration Stations: To help reduce single-use plastic waste, our community corridors feature convenient water refilling stations.
-
Energy-Efficient Interiors: Inside every home, you will find energy-efficient stainless steel appliances and LED lighting features, such as our backlit vanity mirrors, ensuring your home runs cleanly and efficiently.
-
Natural Light: By utilizing the building's original deep floor plates and architectural height, we’ve incorporated skylights and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows in select homes, flooding your space with natural light and reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day.
The "Quiet" Benefit of Reuse
One of the most sustainable choices is simply building things that last. Because Lindsey Living utilizes the steel-and-concrete structure of a commercial office tower, our homes offer a level of thermal mass and soundproofing that traditional wood-frame apartments cannot match. This solid construction helps maintain consistent indoor temperatures and provides a quiet, peaceful sanctuary for our residents.
